Frederick GlaysherMmm, Orwell's book was definitely a dystopia, while I think Machiavelli was largely a guide book from the beginning...

Sourav AdhikaryI, like many, had also shared that opinion until I heard Rushdie who had something quite unique to say in this regard. He says that Machiavelli's life & other works could cast doubt whether his piece was just a product of his cynical pragmatism about how the world was rather than how he would like to see it.
Not yet did I take this as some holy sermon; but it ignited in me a doubt worth it.

Frederick GlaysherI've heard Rushdie say that in an interview somewhere. It's revision, in my opinion. Machiavelli knew quite well what he was about, from both his scholarship and practical political experience in the Florentine government. I'm not sure what motivates Rushdie, but it's more indicative of his needs, I would say, than the historical realities of Machiavelli's book and life.

Sourav AdhikaryThanks for sharing your opinion;I respect yours but would prefer having my own conclusion over time while , at this point, we may both agree on the negatives of the 'handbook'.
