The Baha'i Faith & Religious Freedom of Conscience

Dear Loni:
I expect not to be discussed on Bahai-St. if I can't post there. A
keyword search under "Cole" will show that my name has come up quite a
lot in the past 4 months; if I am forced to be "absent" then this is
nothing but backbiting. In fact, *you* have mentioned me there! (I
mean by "discussed" that I was discussed in vituperative personal terms;
an academic and even-handed discussion of my published work would be
unobjectionable. The analogy to Taherzadeh is not useful, since if he
wanted to he could reply here.) Attacking me and attributing unsavory
motives to me and then preventing me from replying is sort of like tying
me up, blindfolding me, and giving me a beating.
And now you are accusing me of "fooling" people without giving me the
chance to reply! Many thanks for the lesson in extreme-orthodox
"justice." The way people are effectively demonized is, of course, to
deny them the opportunity to speak for themselves and represent their
own views.
However, I am not such a boor as to post where I'm not wanted, and won't
be 'bothering' you again. Note that I was never given any list rules
that would explain why that might be (no such indication is on the Web
page, and Paul Dodenhof, whose views are broadly similar to mine, has
been posting here); and you and Mark have never indicated to me that I
would be unwelcome (Susan did, but as you know Susan is often out of
control and you can't take what she says all that seriously).
cheers Juan

Ditto, this message, Susan. Please send it to the list for me. Loni
Dear All,
I have woken up this beautiful summer morning to find that things are
not well on this list. I believe that the thread on infallibility has
been stopped. (At least that was the plan. I haven't had time to look
at the digest.)
I do know that Juan Cole was briefly subscribed to this list and very
quickly unsubscribed. That, of course, cannot stop him from posting.
At the same time as this message, I am sending a message to Prof. Cole
to request that he stop posting to this list. I have also informed him
that the contentious thread has been stopped.
If this is not enough to get things back to normal, then further action
will be taken.
Sincerely,
Loni Bramson-Lerche

Dear Susan,
This is the second time this week I cannot send mail to the list.
Please post this for me. Loni
Dear Juan,
You know I have feelings of friendship for you. I sincerely hope you
will find peace. I am very happy you have been able to refind your
faith in Baha'u'llah. However, I believe there is an English saying
that goes something like, you can fool some of the people all the time,
and all the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people
all of the time?
You're not fooling me, Juan. Your revision of history is unworthy of
you.
Sincerely,
Loni
